Truman History
Born May 8th, 1884 in Lamar Missouri. He was a sickly child with very bad eyesight: thus he was forced into the world of books and music instead of sports. He was turned down by West Point because of his bad eyesight. Active in the Mason's and a Legionnaire, he entered politics at age 38. Supported by a political boss in Kansas City he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1935. He was selected by Roosevelt to be his running mate in 1944. Three months after the inauguration, Truman found himself President of the United States. Harry Truman was the first President to be broadcast from the Whitehouse on television in 1947. It was first time a President had been brought into view of the public.

Interesting Facts; Truman ordered the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.
Historical Events; Germany and Japan surrender, ending World War II; The Cold War and the Korean War begin; Sen. John McCarthy and the House Committee on Un-Ameriacn Activities anti-communist hearings blacklist much of Hollywood
Campaign Slogan; "Give Em Hell Harry"

"The buck stops here".
